The Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro, has called on Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to embrace gratitude, peace and responsible citizenship as Bambawia Islamic Institute Foundation celebrates 30 years of Quranic education and community service.

He commended the institute’s leadership, teachers, parents and students for their sustained commitment to Islamic education, moral development and the promotion of peaceful coexistence in the Northern Region.

Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro made the remarks on Saturday, September 19, 2026, when he represented the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, at the 30th Annual Quranic Ceremony of the Bambawia Islamic Institute Foundation in Tamale.

The ceremony brought together the Chief Director of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, Municipal and District Chief Executives, traditional leaders, Ulamas and Imams, parents, students, members of the Muslim community and other distinguished guests.

Speaking on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, the Mayor congratulated the management and entire Bambawia Islamic Institute family on the milestone, describing the three-decade journey as a testament to the institution’s dedication to Quranic education, moral formation and community development.

He specifically commended the Director of the Institute, Sheikh Luqman Mohammed Bamba, for his vision, perseverance and leadership in sustaining the institution and its annual Quranic ceremony.

According to Hon. Takoro, Bambawia Islamic Institute has extended its contribution beyond Quranic instruction to the development of disciplined, morally upright and responsible citizens capable of making meaningful contributions to society.

He noted that the institute’s activities continue to support the preservation of Islamic values, peaceful coexistence and human capital development in the Northern Region.

The Mayor described the theme for this year’s ceremony, “Gratitude: A Pathway to Spiritual Fulfilment and Social Growth,” as timely, stressing that gratitude is a virtue encouraged by Islam and essential to building responsible communities.

He explained that gratitude should be demonstrated through action rather than words alone, urging individuals to appreciate their parents by caring for them and upholding the values they have imparted.

He further encouraged students and young people to show appreciation to their teachers by respecting them, applying the knowledge they acquire and contributing positively to the peace and development of their communities.

Quoting Surah Ibrahim, Chapter 14, Verse 7, Hon. Takoro said, “And when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more.’” He said the verse reminded people to appreciate their blessings while remaining committed to personal and societal progress.

The Mayor urged the youth to allow the teachings of the Quran to guide their conduct, encouraging them to become honest, compassionate, hardworking and respectful members of society.

He called on young people to reject violence, intolerance, corruption, drug abuse and other behaviours that could undermine their future and threaten the peace and development of their communities.

Hon. Takoro also appealed to residents of the Northern Region to continue supporting religious and traditional leaders for their contributions to peacebuilding, moral guidance and social cohesion.

He assured religious institutions, traditional authorities, civil society organisations and development partners of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to collaboration in advancing education, peace, inclusion and sustainable development across the region.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, Hon. Abdulai Imoro Gong, also expressed appreciation to the Director of Bambawia Islamic Institute, Sheikh Luqman Bamba, for his consistent prayers for President John Dramani Mahama, his appointees and the people of Ghana.

Hon. Gong commended the Islamic scholar for making prayers for national leadership and the country an important part of his religious responsibilities, emphasising the need for continued spiritual guidance and prayers for peace, wisdom and national progress.

The ceremony ended with a special prayer led by Sheikh Luqman Bamba for President John Dramani Mahama, his appointees and the people of Ghana. The prayer sought Allah’s guidance, wisdom, protection and blessings for the President and the nation, as well as peace, unity, stability and prosperity for the country.
