Dagbon Advocacy Network demands explanation over dissolution of nine state boards

The Dagbon Advocacy Network (DAN) has called on President John Dramani Mahama and his government to provide an immediate and comprehensive explanation for the dissolution of the governing boards of nine state institutions.
According to the advocacy group, the affected institutions operate in strategic sectors of Ghana's economy, making it necessary for the government to clearly explain the circumstances that led to the decision.
The institutions affected are Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and the National Sports Authority (NSA).
In a press statement issued on September 5, 2026, and signed by its Executive Secretary, Solomon Azimah, the Dagbon Advocacy Network said the governing boards of these institutions play critical roles in providing policy direction, oversight, accountability and strategic leadership.

The group noted that although the government has indicated that the affected boards would be reconstituted in due course, Ghanaians deserve a clear explanation regarding the reasons behind their dissolution.
“The government must tell the people of Ghana whether the decision was influenced by concerns about the performance of the boards, administrative restructuring, governance challenges or any other circumstances,” the statement said.
The Dagbon Advocacy Network stressed that transparency and accountability are essential principles of good governance, particularly when decisions involve institutions responsible for managing strategic national resources and delivering important public services.
The group also expressed concern about the governance arrangements in place following the dissolution of the boards and before the appointment of new members.
It called on the government to assure Ghanaians that there would be no governance vacuum that could negatively affect the operations of the affected institutions.
The Network is demanding answers on the specific reasons behind the dissolution of the nine boards, the circumstances that informed the decision, the interim governance arrangements, when new boards will be constituted, and the criteria that will be used in selecting members.
“The people of Ghana deserve answers. Good governance requires openness, transparency and accountability, particularly when decisions affect institutions responsible for managing strategic national resources and delivering essential public services,” the group stated.
The Dagbon Advocacy Network therefore urged President Mahama and his government to address the concerns and provide the Ghanaian public with a full explanation of the decision and the government's plans for the affected institutions.
