Gushegu MCE donates 50 laptops to Nurses and Midwifery College after ICT laboratory fire

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Gushegu, Hon. Abdul Hafiz Adam, has donated 50 laptop computers to the Gushegu Nurses and Midwifery College following a fire outbreak that destroyed the institution’s ICT laboratory a few weeks ago.
The fire incident destroyed all 80 computers in the laboratory, leaving the college with a critical shortage of equipment needed for teaching, learning and examinations.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, who were reportedly dispatched from Yendi, managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other offices within the building. However, the ICT laboratory was completely destroyed.
The donation was made yesterday at a short ceremony held at the college to support academic activities, particularly the upcoming final-year practical examinations. The final-year students are scheduled to begin their Nursing and Midwifery Council practical examinations next week.
Receiving the laptops on behalf of the Principal, the Vice Principal of the college expressed appreciation to the MCE for his timely intervention, noting that the support would help address the challenges created by the fire outbreak.
The donation was made with support from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and its Chief Executive Officer, Chief Tanko Rashid Computer.
Meanwhile, the MCE has initiated steps to strengthen fire safety and emergency response in the Gushegu Municipality. He recently facilitated a visit by the Northern Regional Fire Service Commander and his team to inspect a designated site for the construction of a new fire station in Gushegu.
The proposed facility would be the first Ghana National Fire Service station in the municipality, with preparations for its establishment reportedly at an advanced stage. The project is expected to improve fire prevention and emergency response within the municipality.
The donation has been welcomed as a timely intervention to support the education and professional training of nurses and midwives in Gushegu, while the college works towards restoring its ICT facilities following the fire incident.
