NADMO in the North East Region Raises Alarm Over Forceful Inflow of Spilled Water from Bagre Dam

The North East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Alhaji Tahiru Rafiu, has expressed grave concern over the force with which spilled water from Burkina Faso’s Bagre Dam is flowing into Ghana.
According to him, although authorities in Burkina Faso indicated that water from the dam was being released gradually, NADMO officials have observed an unexpectedly strong flow during routine assessments of water levels and community sensitisation exercises in Zebila in the Upper East Region.

Alhaji Rafiu has therefore urged residents, particularly those living along the White Volta and in low-lying and flood-prone communities, to move to higher ground as a matter of urgency to avoid possible disaster.
He disclosed that as part of preparedness measures, NADMO has distributed life jackets to communities considered to be at risk to help ensure the safety of residents, particularly during evacuation and relocation.
He further called on residents in affected areas to heed warnings from disaster management authorities and take the necessary precautions to protect lives and property.
