NHIA Tamale South Commences Special NHIS Registration at Lamashe-Naa Palace
Lamashegu, Tamale – August 26, 2026 — The Tamale South Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commenced a special registration exercise at the Lamashe-Naa Palace in Lamashegu as part of activities marking this year’s Lamashe-Naa Damba celebration.
The exercise, which is being conducted at the forecourt of the palace, is aimed at bringing National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) services closer to residents of Lamashegu and surrounding communities and ensuring that they have access to affordable healthcare during and beyond the Damba festivities.
Officials of the NHIA Tamale South Directorate said the initiative forms part of the Authority’s community outreach efforts to make NHIS services more accessible, particularly during major traditional and cultural events that attract large numbers of people.
A representative of the Lamashe-Naa commended the NHIA Tamale South Directorate for selecting the palace as a registration centre, describing the initiative as timely and beneficial to the community.
He noted that the Lamashe-Naa Damba celebration goes beyond cultural display, stressing that it also provides an opportunity to promote the health, wellbeing and unity of the people.
“This collaboration shows that our tradition cares about the health of the people. We encourage all residents, particularly women, children and the elderly in Lamashegu who do not have active NHIS cards to take advantage of this opportunity at the palace,” he said.
The exercise covers new NHIS registration, renewal of expired cards, replacement of lost cards, and linking of NHIS cards to Ghana Cards.
Scores of residents have already visited the palace since the exercise commenced, with beneficiaries commending the Lamashe-Naa for facilitating the initiative within the community.
The NHIA Tamale South Directorate said the registration exercise will continue throughout the Damba activities at the Lamashe-Naa Palace, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
Residents of Lamashegu and nearby communities who require NHIS services have therefore been encouraged to take advantage of the exercise to regularise their membership and secure access to healthcare services.
