The seventh-day Islamic prayers for the late Paramount Chief of the Tolon Traditional Area, Tolon Naa Major Sulemana Abukari, have been held today, Friday, September 4, 2026, at the forecourt of the historic Tolon Palace. Special Islamic prayers were also held earlier in the morning, where family members, traditional authorities and mourners gathered to pray for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for the soul of the late chief.
The solemn ceremony drew hundreds of mourners to the palace to pay their final respects to the revered traditional ruler, whose passing has plunged the Tolon Traditional Area, Dagbon and beyond into mourning.

Among the dignitaries who attended were former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, national executives and officers of the NPP, Members of Parliament, religious leaders, traditional authorities and other prominent personalities.
In a brief address, Dr Bawumia eulogised the late Tolon Naa, describing him as a distinguished traditional leader who dedicated his life to the service of his people and the development of the Tolon Traditional Area.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the chiefs and people of Tolon, and prayed for Allah to grant the late chief eternal rest.
The late Tolon Naa Major Sulemana Abukari was widely remembered for his dedicated leadership, commitment to the welfare of his people, and efforts towards promoting peace, unity and development within the Tolon Traditional Area.
