TTH Medical Director visits Lamashe-Naa Palace to monitor ongoing blood donation exercise

The Director of Medical Affairs at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Prof. Alhassan Abdul Mumin, has paid a working visit to the Palace of Lamashe-Naa, Lamashe-Naa Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, to observe an ongoing voluntary blood donation exercise organized in the traditional area.
The exercise, being held at the palace forecourt, aims at restocking the TTH Blood Bank which continues to face chronic shortages. Residents, youth groups, and elders of Lamashegu trooped to the palace to donate.
Prof. Abdul Mumin, who was accompanied by staff of the Hospital's Blood Bank and Public Health Unit, commended the Lamashe-Naa for his leadership and for mobilizing the community for such a life-saving cause.
He said TTH as the major referral hospital for the five northern regions requires large quantities of blood daily to manage maternal emergencies, children with severe malaria and anaemia, accident victims and patients undergoing surgery, yet voluntary donation remains low.
"Blood cannot be manufactured. When we collaborate with respected traditional authorities like Lamashe-Naa, we are able to reach more people and save more lives. What is happening here is exemplary and should be emulated by other communities," Prof. Abdul Mumin stated.
He urged the public to cultivate the habit of regular voluntary donation and dispelled myths associated with blood donation, assuring donors that the process is safe.
On his part, the Lamashe-Naa expressed appreciation to the Management of TTH for the visit and assured that the palace will continue to partner with the hospital in health promotion activities.
The exercise is expected to collect several units of blood for the hospital.
